Filey Volunteers celebrate 30 years of the National Coastwatch Institute
On Wednesday 28 August the Town Council's Mayor was delighted to be invited to join volunteers from Filey Coastwatch Station celebrate 30 years of the National Coastwatch Institute. Since June an anniversary flag has been touring the country to visit all 60 coast watch stations across the UK and ended its journey in Filey, the most northerly station on the East Coast.
Nationally there are over 2,700 volunteer watchkeepers who help to keep people safe and save lives at sea by maintaining a daily visual and radio watch of the coast, looking out for anyone in potential danger.
